New stamps! This one honours the self-appointed guardian of English Bay Beach, Joe Fortes. Canada Post introduces him aptly:

British West Indies native Seraphim “Joe” Fortes came to Vancouver in 1885 as a sailor on the Robert Kerr. The self-appointed lifeguard of English Bay, Joe protected swimmers, taught youth and saved 29 lives, often while risking his own. The year 2013 marks the 150th anniversary of Joe’s birth and this stamp pays tribute to a Canadian whose love of swimming enriched the lives of many Vancouverites.

I love the old image of Vancouver’s West End and the imposing shot of Joe. Snazzy swimsuit. Bathing suits have come a long way since the turn of the century.
